Police officers often seize steroids from motorcycle gangs

The newspaper “The Sydney Morning Herald” reports that outlaw motorcycle gangs are responsible for spread of illegal steroid use in Australia. The gangs get significant profit and low risks.
Nick Bingham, a detective, has said that New South Wales Police doesn’t focus on investigation related to administration of steroids but anabolic steroids become targets of investigations, when outlaw motorcycle gangs are arrested for violation of other laws.
According to Nick Bingham, however New South Wales police officers don’t raid houses of gangs for steroids, they find them, when they conduct searches for weapons and psychostimulant drugs.
Nick Bingham has confirmed that they usually seize such quantities of steroids from motorcycle gangs that are just for personal application. Quantities of other preparations which are commonly found in possession of gangs are much greater than those of steroids.
Bingham has noted that criminals prefer taking anabolic steroids in order to create threatening muscular bodies. They desire to look big and strong.
Although Bingham is sure that gangs have steroids just for self-administration, the newspaper “The Sydney Morning Herald” doesn’t agree with this statement. It reports that motorcycle gangs are implicated in smuggling of steroids.
However gyms are claimed to be the chief sources of steroids for bodybuilders, it is stated by “The Sydney Morning Herald” that several gyms have direct links with motorcycle gangs. The Herald confirms that many seizures made by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service are linked directly with distribution of steroids by motorcycle gangs.
According to statements of Australian Customs, mail seizures of steroids have been enhanced significantly in comparison with past years.
More than 2, 000 seizures were made in 2009-2010 and more than 5, 000 seizures of steroids were recorded in 2010-2011.
The most of seizures were linked with personal usage of steroids smuggled by bodybuilders.
