Cancelation of fight between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan led to loss of potential profit by Golden Boy Promotions

The WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto tested positive for the steroid Nandrolone. This athlete was tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).
 Andre Berto was scheduled to meet Victor Ortiz on June 23, 2012 in Los Angeles. He agreed to submit to random drug testing before the match. T: E ratio method and carbon isotope ratio testing were used; they both indicated about administration of the anabolic steroid Nandrolone.
It was already the second time this month, when the VADA tested fighters and caught them utilizing steroids. The first boxer that tested positive this month due to tests conducted by the VADA was Lamont Peterson. He was scheduled to meet Amir Khan. It seems to be strange that Peterson requested random blood and urine testing. The drug test conducted by the VADA showed that testosterone of exogenous origin was in this fighter’s system certain weeks before the match.
The tests conducted by the VADA influenced greatly on financial position of several companies. For example, Golden Boy Promotions lost essential potential profit due to positives of Lamont Peterson. It was determined by Richard Schaeffer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, that the company lost 250, 000 dollars.
The cancelation of the fight between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz will probably not influence greatly on financial position of certain promotional companies because Andre Berto will be possibly replaced by another boxer who will fight against Ortiz.
The boxer Andre Berto didn’t explain why he tested positive. He hired the attorney Howard Jacobs that would represent and defeat him.
Berto confirmed that he had never taken steroids. So, he claimed that he investigated with his attorney what could lead to positives for steroids. The fighter Andre Berto concluded that he had never cheated; he succeeded in sport due to hard work and dedication.
The attorney Howard Jacobs represented numerous other athletes that turned out to be victims of contaminated food supplements.
It is said that since Nandrolone has very long half life and it is detected easily, it is not very popular among doping sportspersons. But it has been defined many times that several nutritional supplements contained the compound nandrolone which led to positives for steroids. But since sometimes not each compound is enumerated on the label, sportspersons become victims of contaminated sport supplements.
