Usage of steroids for testosterone replacement therapy by sportsmen is a controversial issue. There are a lot of debates linked with it. It is known by everyone that steroids and certain other related medications are prohibited in many sports organizations. But if a person should administer these medications under guidelines of his/her doctor for clinical purposes, he/she should acquire a therapeutic use exemption. Although it is permitted to take even anabolic steroids for therapeutic needs, such sportspersons are often blamed and called “cheaters”. In fact, it is not fair.
What does Dana White, the UFC president, think about usage of steroids for testosterone replacement therapy? Does he blame fighters that apply steroids in order to increase their reduced levels of testosterone? Dana White considers that any man with hypogonadism should apply steroids, if these preparations are indicated by his health care provider. However it is fair, let notice why some sportspersons have decreased testosterone levels. It is proven scientifically that steroid abuse may lead to suppression of natural testosterone secretion. Thus, certain fighters and other sportspersons that have used previously steroids for athletic purposes may experience hypogonadism. Hence, their physicians recommend them taking certain steroids in order to increase their testosterone levels.
According to the UFC president, testosterone replacement therapy is legal for all individuals, including professional athletes. So, if any sportsman experiences hypogonadism, he should be allowed to take steroids recommended by his health care provider. He should get normal testosterone levels which characterize any healthy man of his age.
But Dana White underlines that any fighter or another sportsperson who uses anabolic steroids and/or other banned medications for athletic purposes must be sentenced to bans. It is needed to make difference between those that use steroids for therapeutic purposes and those that desire to add muscle mass and strength with the help these medicines. Nobody is allowed to apply anabolic steroids for athletic needs. It is forbidden in sports. Those that violate anti-doping rules must be sanctioned. Sports must be free from doping.
It seems to be surprising that statements of Dana White differ evidentially from affirmations presented by anti-doping officials. As you know, words of certain anti-doping officers for steroid users are much harsher than those pronounced by Dana White.
